For somewhere around 9 years now I've had this lonely little
corner of the web to myself. It serves as a place to document
my many ill-advised projects and adventures. It's also slowly
turning into my own personal soap box.
The site started in the early 2000s, and back then I was hosting
it on my desktop PC. The uptime was about as bad as you'd imagine,
but that didn't matter much since no one ever visited it. Eventually
I purchased jax184.com, which made it far easier to find and index.
And the uptime improved significantly when I moved it off my PC
and onto Dreamhost. Since
then it's been moved once more, this time to Hostgator.
Now the site enjoys a few hundred hits per day. Just today I received
my 5th piece of fan mail!
I've quite deliberately kept the site styling dirt simple. This
page could be from any time in the last 15 years. The goal is
to keep it simple enough that I can edit it myself, and to ensure
that it loads quickly and easily on virtually any web-ready computer.
To that end I still maintain it in dreamweaver 4 and regularly
test it for compatibility on obscure platforms like the Sega Dreamcast.
Yeah, I know I sound like an old fart. You damn kids, get off
This site has never contained banner ads, flash ads, in-line
ads, mouse overs, pop-unders, pop-ups, interstitials, sponsored
links or any of the many other disgusting and distracting advertising
methods now commonly used to make the web less functional. I pride
myself in keeping the site free of that garbage. All the sites
costs are paid for out of my own pocket. Since I register the
domain and server for many years at a time, my total operating
cost is less than $50 per year. And that's far too little money
to be worth making my website offensive over.
